Jackie Pias Carlin has lived on Maui since 1949. Having led many lives as a professional entertainer, visual artist, an instructor in art, cooking, and writing, she is now an author.
Jackie returned to college in 1997 and completed her BA Degree in Liberal Arts focusing on Human Relations at University of Hawaii Manoa/Maui Campus. She spent the next five summers studying for her Masters Degree at Middlebury College/Bread Loaf School of English at its various campuses-Vermont, New Mexico, Alaska and England. In 2005, she received her MA in English at Lincoln College in Oxford. Her studies concentrated on writing and the teaching of writing. She has also taught Business Writing at Maui Community College.
She presently teaches creative writing workshops in autobiography at Maui’s senior centers at Kaunoa and Lahaina. Carlin and the staff at Kaunoa Senior Center publishes an ongoing collection of seniors’ essays, Where Were You During World War II? She also publishes Write On Maui, an online ezine for creative writers.
When she is not traveling, or working fulltime at her computer, Jackie takes hula classes, paddles with an outrigger canoe club, and practices ta’i ch’i. Her next book is fiction.
